Put simply: If sustainability matters, then cycling is the best option for urban mobility. But it's not that easy. Raw materials bought in from distant countries, overly long supply chains and high material wear - not every bicycle is equally sustainable. However, we do things differently with the RCYL bike.

In detail: What makes the RCYL bike so sustainable?
Many components used in the RCYL bike are made of recycled plastics. This means plastic waste that is currently polluting the earth's oceans, will provide urban mobility tomorrow.
Since all parts are made of plastic, they are resistant to rust and many environmental influences – a RCYL bike can therefore be ridden for many years without any worries.
Part by part, we create a clean future through sustainable world-changing solutions from a linear economy to a circular economy.
The bike is very low maintenance for both user: and the environment. Every single part has been carefully designed, tested and manufactured for durability.
The resulting low maintenance requirements ensurethat fewer spare parts have to be reproduced and no pollutants such as oil or grease are released into the environment.
All moving parts of the bike use integrated solid lubricants that release microscopic particles with every ride, ensuring optimum mobility of wheels and pedals. No re-oiling, no squeaky chain, less wear.
Our concept for manufacturing sustainable, maintenance-free and durable bicycles from recyclable materials is to be implemented in close cooperation with likewise experienced bicycle manufacturers around the world.
The idea: igus creates a platform through which bicycle manufacturers can get in touch with each other. We enable the global bicycle industry to build a different kind of bicycle – and to do so at many locations around the globe. This special type of production then has an impact on transport routes: They become shorter and more environmentally friendly.
