igus:bike worldtour avec RCYL – Slovaquie
Today, we are starting our Slovak tour in the capital city – Bratislava – where history, architecture, and modern life come together along the banks of the Danube.
Bratislava is also home to one of our two Slovak branches. With over 30 years of presence on the market, we support local industry with motion plastics from this very location – making the city not only a symbolic but also a practical starting point for our tour.
Bratislava Castle: Slovakia’s Majestic Hilltop Landmark
Bratislava Castle, perched on a hill above the Danube River, is a striking symbol of Slovakia’s capital. From its terraces, visitors enjoy breathtaking views over the city and the winding river below, stretching all the way to the Austrian border on clear days.
Descending into History: Čumil and the Blue Church
From there, we descend into the historical center, passing by Čumil, the charming and humorous bronze statue peeking from a manhole – a beloved icon of the city’s character.
We continue to the Blue Church (Church of St. Elizabeth), one of Bratislava’s architectural gems. Its bright blue facade and fairytale-like design make it a standout example of Art Nouveau in Slovakia.
Eurovea Promenade: A Lively Riverside Spot
As we make our way to the Eurovea riverside promenade, we enjoy the lively atmosphere of cafés, fountains, and modern buildings set along the Danube.
SNP Bridge and UFO Tower: Modern Engineering Meets Futurism
Just a short ride further, we stop at the iconic SNP Bridge with its futuristic UFO observation tower. This unique structure, completed in the 1970s, symbolizes the city’s modern engineering spirit and offers panoramic views from its sky-high restaurant.
Concluding at Tyršovo nábrežie: The Skyline of Bratislava
We conclude this part of our ride at Tyršovo nábrežie – a peaceful spot on the right bank of the river that offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Bratislava.
From here, three major landmarks define the skyline:
- Bratislava Castle, rising above the city like a guardian of its past,
- The SNP Bridge with its UFO-shaped observation tower, an icon of modern engineering and one of the most recognizable silhouettes in the city,
- and St. Martin’s Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece that once crowned Hungarian kings and now quietly watches over the rooftops of the Old Town.
